Emo hair?? i need help!!?

I got a haircut which is called a long shag,,,i have straight hair but it curls at the ends... i need to know how to keep it straight... like while usin a flat iron do i have to apply any cream?? so tht it would stay longer without becomin wavy...detangler? is tht an option?
